Protogo will format and configure the device and then install all of the system files and tools you'll need. Simply select the device, select the desired profile and then press a single button.
Protogo includes several profiles for standard system/utility configurations so that you can easily set up a device for your particular needs. It also seems pretty easy to set everything up:

You receive Protogo on a DVD from Micromat which has on it the configuration app, Tech Tool Pro Classic, Tech Tool Pro 4 (for OS X), and DiskStudio.
Their newest software, TechTool Protogo, takes a page from TechTool Protege but puts it on a new medium: an old iPod, or any other external hard drive or flash disk. Micromat has, over the years, released a number of software apps for the Mac that have been very popular-namely, Tech Tool Pro (Classic/4/whatever) or TechTool Protege.
